Update on the FCA's Motor Finance Consumer Redress Scheme
On 8 May 2026, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) announced that the implementation of its proposed motor finance consumer redress scheme is currently subject to legal challenges.
While the courts consider these challenges, parts of the scheme have been suspended. This means the requirement for lenders to calculate or pay compensation under the proposed scheme has been put on hold.
The legal challenges are expected to be heard by the courts in either December 2026 or February 2027.
The FCA has published a factsheet explaining what the legal challenges mean for customers.

If you've already made a complaint
You don't need to do anything. We'll automatically consider your complaint under the relevant FCA scheme if it applies.
If your contact details have changed since you made your complaint, please let us know by emailing commissionclaims@genesisfinanceuk.co.uk and include your agreement number.
For some customers, we may already be able to confirm that you aren't entitled to compensation, and that this won't be affected by the outcome of the legal challenges.
If this applies to you, we'll write to you by:
18 November 2026, if your agreement was entered into on or after 1 April 2014 and you made your complaint by 30 June 2026.
18 January 2027, if your agreement was entered into before 1 April 2014 and you make your complaint by 31 August 2026.
If you make a complaint after these dates, and we determine that you're not owed compensation, we'll let you know within five months of receiving your complaint.
If you haven't made a complaint
If you think you may be affected, you can submit a complaint using the button below.
If you choose not to make a complaint
You don't have to make a complaint to receive compensation.
If the courts allow the FCA scheme to go ahead and our records show you’re eligible for compensation, we'll contact you.
Complaints that won't be assessed under the FCA scheme
Some agreements aren't covered by the proposed FCA scheme. We'll continue to handle these through our standard complaints process.
This includes agreements that:
started before 6 April 2007
started after 1 November 2024
aren't regulated motor finance agreements (for example, agreements with businesses or limited companies)
were used to finance something other than a motor vehicle (for example, a caravan, jet ski or an add-on loan)
are contract hire or leasing agreements.
